Jim Shockley

Date of Birth: November 3, 1953
Date of Death: March 27, 2013

James Harding Shockley (Jim) was born November 3, 1953 in Louisville, Kentucky to Philip Monroe Shockley and Mary Mae (Harding) Shockley, joining his sister Cynthia Dawn. Phil was serving in the Air Force in Casablanca, Morocco, at the time of Jim's birth. When Jim was 14 months old, Phil returned and the family moved to Mountain Home Air Force Base near Mountain Home, Idaho, where he would be stationed for the next 9 1/2 years. When Phil retired from the Air Force the family moved to Aurora, Colorado.

Jim attended school in Aurora, graduating from Aurora Central High School in 1972. He started working for United Airlines in Denver in 1973 as a Skycap. He attended college at Southwest Baptist College in Bolivar, MO, returning to Denver to work for United during the summers. After college, he moved to Kansas City, MO to work for United Airlines as a Customer Service Representative. From there he moved to Houston, TX to open United's service there, and later to San Antonio, TX. He made wonderful friends in each of these stops.

Jim moved to Denver one week before his wedding to Marjorie Diane Boone in 1982. They moved to Aurora in 1983. Jim and Margie had a daughter, Danika, and son, Andrew. He was a loving husband and father, son and brother. Jim enjoyed all the kids' activities growing up, including Brownies, Cub Scouts, dance recitals, soccer games, T-ball and baseball games, spaghetti bingo dinners, track, any kind of construction or home improvement project, and Young Life. Jim and Margie served on the Young Life area committee for Smoky Hill High School for a number of years, supporting Club in Smoky Hill and other area Cherry Creek high schools.

Jim was an active member of Cherry Hills Community Church and enjoyed singing in The Choir with Margie. He loved not only hymns but gospel, rock, blues, and country music. He was involved in a Bible study group with close friends for over 20 years. He was a loyal Broncos fan, wearing his Bronco gear whether at home or at the game. He was also a CSU Rams (Danika) and CU Buffs (Andy) fan. He enthusiastically enjoyed vacations with family, extended family, and friends. Each one was an adventure to be embraced and photographed. He loved to pull jokes on his friends. Most of all, he loved people and was always looking for ways to help anyone he could.

Jim is survived by his wife Margie, his children Danika and Andrew, mother Mae, sister Cynthia (Charlie) Howerton, his aunts Jean Chrisman and Louise Stott, and numerous cousins, nephews and nieces. Memorial services will be held Thursday April 4th at 2:00 PM at the Chapel at Cherry Hills Community Church, 3900 Grace Boulevard, Highlands Ranch, CO.
